Ooh ar ooh ar - a review of a great day out
At last! I made a pilgrimage to Wavering Down on Sunday 17th June, with the help of good friend Allen as driver. Special mention in dispatches must be made to Nigel and Jane for looking after us and also Robin and Jan for the taxi duties - it was lovely to put faces to people with whom we had been corresponding all this time.
Wavering Down was packed to the Rafters for this event - I would say several hundred people were camped out in the back garden - brollies at the ready as it was one of those late Spring days - sun and dark clouds. But Frankie must have been helping as not a drop of rain fell - or else I had not noticed with the help of the local Cider?
As well as marching bands, jazz, singers, a licensed bar, pig roast the two best items that did it for me - Don The Whistler and of course the wonderful Wurzels. Below you will see two small(ish) video clips of Don (doing the Birdy Song no less) and the Wurzels - their new version of "Combine Harvester" had the crowds up on the floor as you will see. The clips are in Windows Media Player format.
Just Lee Collins was in the crowd (Channel 4's Friday night Project) and was happily signing autographs - and we had our picture taken which you will see below (i'm on the left looking buck-toothed for some odd reason!!).
I had a chance to look around the house and hope to see Chris in the future for a closer look.
So, if you are wondering if a future event is right for you - I can only unreservedly say "YES" get those skates on and drive down to beautiful Somerset (we stayed in the town of Cheddar) and have a right royal time.
